Rise up

A collection of continuous work, exploring resilience and strength, taking inspiration from the cactus, which grows and blooms against all odds, out of the arid desert dirt.

I use the cactus as a symbol of fortitude, letting my intuition guide me with the choice of color and shape.

Inspired by energies that I have learned to see through my work as a Reiki healer. I am also exploring the journey we are all on as humans, particularly as women: surviving, learning and evolving.

To bring this to my work, I am working within the tradition of women expressing creativity through textiles. By using this medium, I am able to draw on skills that I developed as a fashion and textile designer.

I am particularly interested in texture, and use this in my work to breathe life into the pieces. I like the work to be simple yet busy, combining clean shapes with more complex patterns or textures, and setting loud colors against the calm nature of the raw canvas.

Using a combination of punch needle embroidery for a rugged textural effect then painting and layering the different techniques and finally sewing them on to the raw canvas.
